Non-binary Gender in ‘The Room Where It Happens’: Towards a phenomenological approach to clinical existential practice with non-binary and gender-expansive patients

Abstract

While cultural competency and gender-affirming psychotherapy are important concepts within the praxis of psychotherapy, this article argues that these benchmarks are nevertheless insufficient as they concern the practice of psychotherapy with non-binary and gender-expansive individuals. I then discuss the implications this exploration for the practice of existential psychotherapy.
